Webber Naturals Omega-3 1000 mg Fish Oil Softgels, 210 Softgels
Description
Fish oil in its most straightforward form: 1000 mg softgels, 210 per bottle. Roughly a seven-month supply at one a day, which makes this one of the better-value omega-3 options we carry.
What omega-3 actually refers to
The two fatty acids that matter in fish oil are EPA and DHA. When comparing products, the number worth looking at isn't the size of the softgel but the EPA and DHA content — a 1000 mg fish oil softgel contains 1000 mg of oil, of which the omega-3s are a portion. Check the label panel for the specific amounts.
DHA is a structural component of cell membranes, particularly concentrated in the brain and the retina. EPA is more associated with the body's inflammatory signalling pathways.
Why supplement at all
Canada's dietary guidance suggests fish twice a week, which a lot of people don't manage. If oily fish — salmon, mackerel, sardines, herring — isn't a regular part of your diet, a supplement is the usual way to close that gap.
Practical notes
- Take with a meal. Omega-3s are fat-soluble and absorb better with food; it also reduces fishy repeat
- Storing the bottle in the fridge helps with aftertaste and slows oxidation
- If the capsules smell strongly rancid, don't take them — fish oil does go off
- 210 softgels is a long time to work through; check the expiry date against your rate of use
Before you start
Speak to your doctor or pharmacist first if you take blood thinners — warfarin, apixaban, rivaroxaban, clopidogrel or daily aspirin. Fish oil affects platelet function, and the combination warrants supervision. Stop taking it in advance of any scheduled surgery, and tell your surgeon.
Not suitable if you have a fish allergy. Check with a healthcare professional if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a bleeding disorder.
