Sunscreen
Broad-spectrum sunscreens for face, body, sport and kids from La Roche-Posay, Neutrogena, Coppertone, Banana Boat, Ombrelle, Thinksport, Eucerin, Hawaiian Tropic, Option+ and ATTITUDE, in lotions, sprays and tinted mineral formulas, shipped across Canada.
How to choose a sunscreen
- SPF 30 or higher, broad-spectrum: Health Canada recommends a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30, which protects against both UVA and UVB rays.
- Water-resistant: for swimming, sports and sweaty days. Look for "water resistant (40 minutes)" or "(80 minutes)" on the label.
- Mineral vs chemical: mineral sunscreens use zinc oxide or titanium dioxide and are often preferred for sensitive skin and kids; chemical filters tend to feel lighter and rub in clear.
- Face formulas: lightweight fluids and tinted options sit well under makeup and are less likely to clog pores.
How to apply
- Apply generously 15 minutes before going outside; most people use too little.
- Reapply at least every 2 hours, and after swimming, sweating or towelling off.
- With sprays, spray into your hands for your face, and don't inhale.
- Babies under 6 months: keep them out of direct sun and use shade, hats and clothing instead of sunscreen.
Sunscreen works best with shade, a wide-brimmed hat and UV-protective sunglasses, especially between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. when UV is strongest.
