NFH Adrenal SAP Licorice-Free, 90 Capsules
Description
The same adaptogenic formula as NFH's standard Adrenal SAP, with the licorice root removed. That single change is the whole reason this version exists — and for a substantial group of people it's the one they should be buying.
Why licorice gets left out
Licorice root contains glycyrrhizin, which interferes with an enzyme that normally inactivates cortisol in the kidneys. The practical result is sodium retention, potassium loss, and raised blood pressure in susceptible people. It's a genuine pharmacological effect, not a theoretical caution — which is why a licorice-free option matters if you have hypertension, take blood pressure medication or diuretics, have heart or kidney conditions, or are pregnant.
What's still in it
Six adaptogens — ashwagandha, holy basil, Panax ginseng, eleuthero (Siberian ginseng), astragalus and schisandra — plus vitamin C, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, magnesium and zinc. Vitamin C is worth noting here: the adrenal glands hold among the highest concentrations of it of any tissue in the body.
Choosing between the two versions
- Licorice-free (this one): the safer default if you have any blood pressure or cardiovascular consideration, or simply aren't sure
- Standard Adrenal SAP: contains licorice; appropriate where a practitioner has specifically indicated it
- Both are 90 capsules at the same price, so cost isn't a factor in the decision
Format
90 capsules. Pharmaceutical-grade manufacturing, hypoallergenic, free from gluten, dairy, soy, artificial preservatives and artificial colours. Made in Canada.
Before you start
Removing the licorice removes one specific concern, not all of them. The remaining botanicals still carry interaction potential — ginseng, astragalus and ashwagandha with blood thinners, blood sugar medication, thyroid medication, sedatives and immunosuppressants. Review it with your pharmacist if you take prescription medication.
Consult a professional if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a thyroid or autoimmune condition. If fatigue is persistent, it's worth having a doctor investigate the cause properly — the possibilities range widely and most are worth ruling out. Store cool and dry, out of reach of children.
