Nestle Materna Prenatal Multivitamins, 100 Tablets

Nestlé Materna is a once-a-day prenatal multivitamin. It is made for the higher nutrient needs of planning a pregnancy, being pregnant and breastfeeding. Health Canada recommends a daily multivitamin with folic acid for anyone who could become pregnant, and Materna covers that in one tablet.

Key nutrients per tablet

• Folic acid 600 mcg: helps reduce the risk of neural tube defects when started at least three months before conception
• Iron 24 mg: supports the increase in blood volume during pregnancy
• Iodine 225 mcg: important for your baby's brain and thyroid development
• Vitamin D 600 IU and calcium 250 mg: for bones and teeth
• A full range of B vitamins, vitamins A (partly as beta-carotene), C and E, plus zinc, selenium, copper and other trace minerals

See the package for the complete nutrient panel.

How to take it

Take one tablet a day with food, from before conception through pregnancy and breastfeeding. Take it a few hours apart from other medicines or natural health products.

Good to know

• Keep out of reach of children. This bottle contains enough iron to seriously harm a child.
• Check other supplements for overlapping nutrients. Don't double up on vitamin A or iron.
• Your health provider may suggest a different folic acid dose if you have a higher risk of neural tube defects.
