Description

A familiar, chocolate-flavoured way to get things moving. Ex-Lax uses sennosides from the senna plant, which encourage the bowel's natural muscle contractions. Take it at bedtime and it usually works by morning.

Formula

  • Medicinal: sennosides 15 mg per tablet
  • Non-medicinal: chocolate flavour, cocoa, dextrose, lactose, magnesium stearate and others

How to take

  • Adults and children 12+: 1–2 tablets once a day, at bedtime
  • Swallow whole with a full glass of water
  • Under 12: ask a health professional first
  • Taking more won't work faster

Precautions

  • For occasional use: no more than a week without medical advice; long-term use can make the bowel dependent
  • Don't use with unexplained abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting, a bowel blockage or inflammatory bowel disease
  • Common: cramping, gas, bloating, mild diarrhea. Overuse can cause dehydration and electrolyte imbalance
  • See a health professional if constipation continues; keep out of children's reach
