Colace Docusate Sodium 20mg/5mL, 250 mL Syrup

When straining is the last thing you should be doing, after surgery, during recovery or with a sensitive gut, a stool softener is the gentle option. Colace syrup uses docusate sodium to help water soak into stool so it passes more easily, without stimulating the bowel.

Formula

• Medicinal: docusate sodium 20 mg per 5 mL
• Non-medicinal: purified water, glycerin, sorbitol solution, citric acid, sodium citrate, flavour, preservatives

How to take

• Adults and children 12 and older: 15–20 mL one to two times a day, following the package for the daily maximum
• Children 6–11: 15 mL one to two times a day. Under 6: only as directed by a doctor
• Older adults: start with the lowest effective amount
• Shake well; mix each dose into half a glass of milk or juice to mask the bitter taste, and drink plenty of fluids through the day

• Don't use with a bowel blockage or severe abdominal pain
• For short-term use: no more than a week without medical advice
• Ask first if pregnant or breastfeeding; see a doctor if constipation persists or worsens
