Description

A condom breaks, a pill gets missed, or protection wasn't used. Backup Plan Onestep is a one-tablet emergency contraceptive (the "morning-after pill") containing 1.5 mg of levonorgestrel to lower the chance of pregnancy afterwards.

Timing is everything

  • Take the tablet as soon as you can, ideally within 12 hours
  • It can be taken up to 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sex

How it works

Levonorgestrel mainly prevents or delays ovulation. It does not work if you are already pregnant and does not end an existing pregnancy. It is not an abortion pill.
