First Aid & Wound Care
Antibiotic ointment, antiseptic cream and wound dressings for everyday cuts, scrapes and minor burns, shipped across Canada.
What to keep in a home first aid kit
- Antibiotic ointment for minor cuts and scrapes, such as Polysporin Original Ointment.
- Antiseptic cream, such as Crystaderm 1% Hydrogen Peroxide Cream.
- Wound dressings. Triad Hydrophilic Wound Dressing is a sterile paste often used under the direction of a nurse.
- Bandages, gauze, tape and a pain reliever. See Pain Relief.
Caring for a minor cut
- Wash your hands, then rinse the wound with clean running water.
- Press gently with clean gauze until the bleeding stops.
- Apply a thin layer of ointment or cream as the label directs, then cover it.
- Change the dressing daily, or whenever it gets wet or dirty.
When to get medical care
See a doctor or go to urgent care if a wound:
- is deep or gaping, or keeps bleeding after 10 minutes of pressure
- was caused by an animal or human bite, or by a dirty or rusty object
- shows signs of infection: spreading redness, warmth, swelling, pus or fever
Also ask whether your tetanus shot is up to date. If you have diabetes or poor circulation, have even small foot wounds checked.
