Contingency One is an emergency contraceptive tablet containing 1.5 mg of levonorgestrel, used to help reduce the chance of pregnancy after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure (such as a broken condom or missed birth control pills). It is a single-dose Ã…"morning-after pill " that works best when taken as soon as possible, preferably within 12 hours and no later than 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected intercourse.

This single-dose tablet is not intended for regular birth control use and does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

How Contingency One works:

• Contingency One works mainly by preventing or delaying ovulation (the release of an egg from the ovary). It does not work if you are already pregnant and it is not an abortion pill.
